In the last couple years, a trend has been gaining traction in the world of fat reduction. Men and women alike are hopping on the bandwagon of freezing away their fat. And what’s more than that – it’s actually working! More than 4 million coolsculpting procedures have been performed worldwide and patients are loving it.
So, what’s the big deal?
Coolsculpting is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared process in which fat cells are crystallized, or frozen, that generally takes 35-60 minutes per session. No anesthetics or surgical equipment are required. And immediately after the procedure, patients can return to normal every day activities.
It typically takes more than one session to gain (or lose in this case) the desired results, but with the ease and success of this procedure, people have a hard time saying no.
How does it work?
When going in for a coolsculpting treatment, visible fat bulges are generally targeted. In the U.S., this procedure is cleared for the submental (face and neck) area, thigh, abdomen, flank, bra fat, back fat, and underneath the butt.
During treatment, a gel pad and applicator are placed on the area where the patient wants to lose the fat. The applicator then cools the targeted fat. Sensations such as pulling, pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching and cramping can be felt at the beginning of the treatment, but as the area becomes numb these sensations subside and you can multi-task by reading a book, working on a laptop, watching a movie, or even taking a nap.
After the treatment is done you won’t see immediate results. The fat cells have been frozen and are dead, but the body will need to take time to process and eliminate these dead cells. Doctors say to wait a couple weeks before expecting to see results, and see maximum results after 8 weeks.
As mentioned previously, the desired results might not be achieved with one session, but after 6-8 weeks if you’re content with the results and want to see further improvement, you can get another treatment done.
Is it permanent?
Once the cells are dead and eliminated from the body, they are gone for good. However, this isn’t a permanent solution to preventing weight gain or keeping fat off.
Your bulging fat cells will be frozen and eliminated, but gaining weight is a consequence of lifestyle choices. While you may gain weight more proportionally and not in the focused areas as before, do what you can to maintain a healthy lifestyle to prevent future fat and weight gain.
Not every medical facility offers coolsculpting services, but you can search your area for a coolsculpting provider if you are interested in this procedure.
