During the ongoing Mobile World Congress, an LG spokesperson confirmed that LG has no plans to build a successor to Google’s Nexus 5 or Nexus 5X and rather, needs to “focus on its own brand.”
According to a report by CNET, the spokesperson stated that, LG is “totally happy” with its relationship and its work on the Nexus phones, but the project requires a lot of resources that could be better put in its own phones.” In addition, the company also has plans to bring back the LG Watch Urbane LTE 2nd Edition in the second half of the year. Apparently, the company will also unveil a second smartwatch. However, no details were shared regarding the same.
This year, the company has opted to skip introducing a new G Flex phone and will instead, focus on its G5 and V-series phones. However, the spokesperson said, “Curved displays are not going away.”
During the event, LG also unveiled ‘Friends’ for the LG G5, a term that LG’s using to describe companion accessories for their G5 smartphone. These accessories are meant to enhance the functionality of the G5 smartphone and include a VR headset, a 360-degree camera, a Rolling Bot, a DAC from B&O and a Cam+ module, among others.
